Rice Lake Diffuser Winter Aeration system (installed 2019)
During 2019 the Rice Lake Area Association invested in a new winter aeration system which should prove to be easier to deploy and use in future years. The previous above water Aeromix system needed to be put out and retrieved each season after use. This became problematic over time as ice movement shifted the aeration unit and caused it to disconnect from the power source numerous times.
This new diffuser system is configured with diffusers on the lake bottom, fed by air hoses from a pump on the shoreline. No deployment is necessary once the unit is installed. The system can be switched on/off from the shoreline and the initial holes in the ice need to be opened up by drilling them once the ice is safe to navigate on. This system is very similar to one installed several years ago on Lake Edward in Maple Grove.
The same power source (located along the NW corner of the lake at the address of 15573 91st Ave N) is being used for the new system. The 6 diffusers are located approximately 250' from the shoreline in the shape of an arc.
Once the ice is save to support people and the system is activated during the winter, the appropriate Thin Ice and warning signs will be set out on the lake.
